So you've heard about social media marketing, but you're not sure what's in it for you?
Social media marketing is the way in which your business gains website traffic or attention through social media platforms.
And what do we mean by social media platforms? There are the usual suspects - the platforms you have probably at least heard of, even if you don't use them personally - think Facebook, Twitter or YouTube, but the possibilities don't end there. What we're talking about is really any website or application that enables users to create and share content.
These sites and applications offer interesting and exciting opportunities for business.
When thinking about whether social media is right for your business, you only need to look at the statistics to see that there is enormous potential.
Media consumption habits have changed significantly over recent years, with the emergence of social networking and digital technologies becoming central to the way we live. In 2015, an estimated 2.08 billion people had an active social media account, representing 29 per cent of the world’s population.
In Australia, growth in social media use for small businesses has steadily increased from 18.1 per cent in 2011, to 30.8 per cent in 2014 - however this is still low in comparison to general consumers, whose use of social media as increased even more rapidly in the same space of time (50 per cent of Australians access social media every day).
If businesses want to remain relevant and top of mind to consumers, while leveraging target market participation and engagement to turn a profit, they must recognise that social media is where their consumers are. Knowing the trends and the opportunities that social media presents is critical to understanding how to tap into this audience.
Here at Simple Social, we want to communicate the concept of social media marketing for Australian business, as simply as possible. The best way for us to do this is to know a little more about your experiences with social.
Do you use social media personally? Do you know where to start when using social for your business? What are the goals of your business?
